I am Panos Koutselinis (Πάνος Κουτσελίνης), a composer/producer from Greece.
I wrote my first music composition called “Imagination” (φαντασία) at the age of 8. Then my parents decided to hire a music teacher to teach me music theory and piano basics. It was fun playing with better instruments my teacher had, but not as much fun to read music which other people wrote. All I wanted was to write my own stuff. After two years I quit music school and tried to learn acoustic guitar by myself. And then i bought my first electric guitar and left my piano lessons behind.
I spent many years playing in a band with some friends while I was studing computer science. Alternative rock and heavy metal were my favorite genres back then, so I was focused on writing in those genres. Those years were a valuable lesson for my craft. I wrote many songs for that band and also met some excellent musicians along the way.
While writing and playing guitar for a rock/metal band was one of the best experiences in my life, I was feeling a little restricted. I wanted to expand my writing and write different kinds of music, so I started writing some electronic music and also started to pay attention to the Greek contemporary music scene.
I had always been writing music with the help of a computer, but after I stopped playing with my band, I decided to apply for a music technology course in my hometown’s conservatory. After I graduated from there, I had to watch a lot of online courses and tutorials to really get a grasp on music production.
In the last 3 years, I have mostly written and produced Greek contemporary music and music for video games. I work as a freelancer and have been collaborating with various singers, songwriters and record companies.
My second goal is to help an American friend of mine make his dream come true. We are in the process of creating a non-profit record label that will host greek artists who are keeping the greek music tradition in their songwriting. I wrote four songs inspired by the old Greek classics as teasers, and there is more good music to come from this new record label.
As a gamer and as an amateur programmer who has coded some games, another goal of mine is to write music for indie games. So if you have any project, don’t hesitate to ask my help.
